TGCA Quarterly Connection

TGCA Quarterly Connection is a new feature blog from our president, Alison Abbott, that will inform members and residents on facility updates, community building efforts, and general progress at the community association. Expect to see a new one every few months or so.

Inside the Centre
We’ve had a busy start to 2025. Bingo players will have noticed new bingo equipment has been installed. This is a long overdue upgrade to what had been in place since 1992 and will certainly enhance the experience for all. We were also happy to support the Innisfail Legion who will be making use of the old equipment. The racquetball floors have been refinished and we are eagerly awaiting our new ice re-surfacer.

Spotlight on Volunteers
At Thorncliffe-Greenview, we are privileged to have a dedicated, enthusiastic, and actively involved team of volunteers. We have over 100 volunteers and it was an honor to recognize these outstanding individuals on April 5 with a fun evening of dinner and comedy.

On any given day at TGCA you see volunteerism in action, including:

  • Community garden and gardening gang volunteers
  • Events committee members for our Spring, Stampede, Halloween and Christmas family events
  • Booster Club – Stampede Breakfast and hockey tournaments
  • The Thornview Seniors
  • Casino volunteers
  • Playgroup
  • Sports Leagues – volleyball, racquetball and bowling
  • Scouts, Guides
  • The Dream team
  • Good Food Box distribution
  • Annual Craft Fair
  • Gym nights

We were also pleased to be joined by our lifetime members whose many years of dedicated wisdom and volunteer hours have created an outstanding foundation and legacy that we continue to build upon. More members will receive lifetime memberships at our October AGM. Look out for details coming soon including how you can nominate a deserving individual.

Hot Topics
The Planning and Development committee are dealing with an increasing number of RC-G developments since the blanket rezoning decision by the City in May of 2024. We appreciate TGCA residents for actively providing feedback on development permits and bringing forward helpful information to assist in our comments. Please visit our Planning and Development page regularly to stay informed regarding development permits including important feedback and appeal deadlines.

Did You Know?
Since 1980 The TGCA has been providing scholarships for post secondary students whose parents are active members and volunteer within the community. That is well over 150 students who have benefited from this opportunity. Watch for more details coming up for our next nomination cycle and access more information here.

Support the Community Association
Our biannual Saturday Night Social cabaret event will take place on April 26, 2025. What a great opportunity to enjoy live music, dance and spend time with neighbors and friends at a very reasonable cost. This event is also a key fundraiser, with all proceeds benefiting the community by supporting various events such as Neighbor Day, Stampede, and Family Dances. Slow Walkin Walter is an outstanding Alberta band who got rave reviews the last time we hosted them. Get your tickets here – and be sure to join in the fun.
