TGCA in 2024 by the numbers

There’s always so much happening at the TGCA, and 2024 was no exception, so we’re bringing you a quick look at how the year went by the numbers.

Firstly, many, many thanks

The TGCA would like to thank all the staff, volunteers, community partners, participants and clients who contributed to the community association’s success this year. We look forward to another year of building community with everyone in 2025!

Nutrition numbers

The TGCA is a depot for the Community Kitchen Calgary’s popular program, Good Food Box, and with the help of our awesome volunteer, Leona, we took orders for and distributed 366 boxes in 2024. View the Good Food Box info/order page here.

Loads of events

The TGCA held all kinds of events this year, 17 in total. From a town hall forum on zoning and development to seasonal family dances to big outdoor events like the annual Stampede Yahoo and plenty in-between, there really was a reason for everyone to attend an event at the centre this year. See the upcoming & past events page here.

Funds raised

With the help of the community, we raised funds for local families in the annual TGCA Adopt-a-Family as well as for the Calgary Food Bank and Veteran’s Food Bank at the Saturday Night Social events and Bingo Christmas Dinner fundraisers.

5000+ followers

In 2024 the TGCA had 5671 followers across 3 platforms; X, Facebook and Instagram. Please note that the CA is stepping back from the X platform in 2025 and will have further announcements in the new year. Click on the Facebook or Insta icons to visit our pages.

Leadership +/-

The TGCA saw our long-serving president, Leslie Degagne, step down from the position after 17+ years, and we all wish her the best in her new adventures in Olds, AB. We also welcomed a new president, Alison Abbott, into the guiding role at the TGCA, and we’re so pleased to have her at the helm. Find out more about our board here.

Student support x 3

Every year the TGCA gives local students the opportunity to apply for the TGCA Scholarship and in 2024 3 scholarships were awarded to postsecondary students from our local high schools. Learn about the scholarship here.

6 new business members

This year we were pleased to welcome 6 new businesses to the TGCA business membership; Jazzercize North Calgary, Cyrus Landscaping, Highland Park Physiotherapy Clinic, Forget Me Not Cakes, Saved By Grace Homecare, and Tutor Doctor Calgary East. Each of these businesses has an exclusive offer to TGCA members. Find out more here.

3 new programs

3 new TGCA programs were added to the fitness, nutrition, leisure and learning programs offered at the TGCA for a total of 17. Volunteers took the helm this year to get a grant to fund a new grassroots program – the playgroup. Coffee Talk took some time to build but has a great group of pals that meet weekly now, and the Chair Yoga program has been a remarkable success from day one. Learn more about our 2025 programs here.

One new place to grow

This is a big one!! One new facility was constructed at the TGCA this year. Thanks to the tireless efforts of our Community Garden Committee, the community garden was built and enjoyed by many community members last spring/summer. Find out more about the community garden here.
