A slip and fall could be a serious health threat to seniors and those with mobility issues this winter

Our community, Thorncliffe in particular, has a relatively high number of seniors, and a need for neighbours helping neighbours with volunteer snow removal this winter has been identified. There are folks who just aren’t mobile enough or strong enough to shovel their walks and many are low-income and cannot pay a fine from the city.

Please consider that if snow can’t be cleared from a person’s walks, they risk falling and getting injured every time they leave their home. Not to mention that their walk becomes a hazard for other people in the area.

Whether you can help short term or long term, there’s likely someone in your area that could use your help.

The TGCA would like to identify those in need of help shoveling their walk this winter and those who can volunteer to help them. We will try to match folks up who live close to one another, but this isn’t necessarily a guarantee.

Volunteers: When you are matched with a person who needs assistance this winter, the TGCA will provide their phone number and address and you will be able to make your plans with them from that point.

The TGCA is only taking applicants/volunteers in the areas of Thorncliffe and Greenview. If you don’t live in this area and are in need of help with your walks, please call 311.
