From the TGCA Board of Directors:
Great communities have many unsung heroes, and we want to recognize one such individual who since 2018 has been an outstanding advocate for one of our beloved community spaces.
In March of 2018, Janice Deere had an idea and a plan for the Highland Park Valley. What if, we scoop up the dog poop littering the valley, leave doggie bags and garbage bins, would dog walkers embrace the concept, in turn scoop the poop, respect the natural environment, protect the water, create a beautiful warm and welcoming greenspace for all to enjoy. The answer was a resounding yes!
Six years later Janice continues to haul the odoriferous bounty out of the Valley. Always taking a moment to speak with the dog walkers and park users, about the history of the valley, the creeks, wetlands, the creatures, the natural environment, and advocates for the valley to become a public park.
The City of Calgary, the landowner and park users benefit from Janice’s unwavering commitment and stewardship of the Valley.
Thorncliffe-Greenview Community Association applauds and recognizes Janice’s kind generous spirit and connection to the natural environment. Thank you Janice for making a difference, your tireless efforts are very much appreciated.
