Yvonne Arkley of Calgary, AB passed away on April 7, 2024, at the age of 92.
Yvonne was surrounded by the love of her family during her 4 days at the Peter Lougheed Centre where she received such incredible care from the Doctors, Nurses and other staff.
Yvonne was born in Calgary on August 7, 1931, to Iris and Daniel LeVesconte. She was their first born and was followed by 3 brothers, Ivor (Norma), David (Marion) and Michael (Pat) plus the addition, some years later of their chosen brother Gibson “Gil” (Mavis) Lee Chee.
Yvonne left secondary school after grade 10 to complete her bookkeeping certificate and then jumped into the work world for a couple of local companies before landing her career position as accountant for Carriage Lane Furniture (Murray Manufacturing) where she worked for 30 years.
In Jan 1965 Yvonne married Ken Arkley and blended their two families into their new home in Thorncliffe, and Ken Jr came along in June of 67. Yvonne would live in that house for over 50 years, until she moved into the Manor Village in Huntington Hills in 2017 a few years after Ken Sr passed away.
Kenny started playing hockey in 1973 which got Yvonne involved in the community. Yvonne helped many other ladies in forming the Thorncliffe Greenview Women’s League, which became such a huge part of her life for the next 50 years. These incredible women gave of themselves tirelessly and were truly the backbone of the community. The friendships formed with these ladies literally lasted a lifetime and gave her so much joy and fulfillment.
Yvonne’s love of the community was only exceeded by her love of her dear family. Her husband of nearly 50 years, Ken, her 3 sons, Danny (Dana), Randy (Alyson), Ken Jr (Leah), her 4 stepdaughters Judy (Herb), Patti, Susan and Mary (Brad) as well as her dozens of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Yvonne was the force that kept everyone connected. Family, friends & community. Hosting all the big family holiday dinners, creating beautiful quilts for all the babies, sending out Christmas and Birthday cards to 100’s of people and of course all the Birthday cheques!
Yvonne will be so dearly missed by All who knew her!
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alberta Heart & Stroke Foundation.
A celebration of Yvonne’s life is planned for Saturday, April 27 at 11:00 am at the Thorncliffe Greenview Community Centre in the small hall (Thorncliffe Room).
