Update, Nov. 19, 2025 – The petition has been submitted to Sobey’s head office by the local resident that led this initiative. The effort garnered over 600 signatures, gathered both online and in person. Upon a response from Sobey’s, the TGCA will post any new updates in this community initiative.
Recently, the Thorncliffe Safeway at 5607 4th Street NW announced that in March of next year it would be rebranded as a Freshco. We have been hearing concerns about this change from residents who rely on and utilize this long-serving local amenity – specifically the deli, bakery, and floral departments and their staff, as Freshco does not offer these.
Concerned community members have launched a petition asking Safeway to reconsider this decision.
Petition now closed to signatures. Community members will update the community if any significant steps result from this grassroots initiative. Thank you.
