Neighbour Day 2023 recap
Thanks Neighbours!
It seems everyone had a great time on Saturday at the TGCA Neighbour Day celebration! The weather was great and everyone brought contributions to the event; cool products, great tunes, delish food, greenery and garden knowledge, and of course, the building blocks of community, all those smiling faces!
Thanks so much to the vendors, business members and community organisations who made the market a great experience, and to the buskers who provided some much-appreciated atmosphere for the day. You guys made the day something special!
The TGCA Board were serving up lunch for the community, and folks enthusiastically lined up until we ran out of the pulled pork lunch.
The perennial exchange and planting station was busy and lots of gardeners -grown and wee alike- got something to take home and nurture this summer. We had a couple of awesome volunteers, Pamela and Tracy, and some great donations from Plantation Garden Centre too.
Thanks most of all to the community members who joined in, supported local and connected with each other this year. We look forward to next year and we hope you do too.
Vendor Market | Live Music | Kids’ Activities | BBQ Lunch | Perennial Exchange & Free Planting Station
June 17, 11 am – 4 pm, 5600 Centre St. N in the south parking lot
It’s the 10th Annual Neighbour Day in Calgary and the TGCA has got some great ways to connect with neighbours this year. This is a free event so bring the whole family and let’s support local together at the community centre!
Neighbours please note: This is an outdoor event but if there’s very uncooperative weather, it will be moved indoors, so you can plan on coming no matter what the weather is like.
Parking in the north and east lots, pet-friendly event, bring a reusable shopping bag!
Events and activities:
Vendor Market | 11 am – 4 pm
Support local artists and vendors at the market all day. We’ll have over 25 vendors with everything from birdhouses to clothing to stuffies this year. Come and explore the market and chat with vendors. With items ranging $2 and up there truly is something for everyone.
See listing of Neighbour Day market vendors here
Live music | all day
There will be a few different local musicians providing music and melody for the day’s activities, so make sure and check them out and give a few bucks to show that you support musicians in the community.
BBQ Lunch | 11:30 am – 1:30 pm
Enjoy a delicious pulled pork on a bun lunch with all the fixins served up by the TGCA board of directors.
Perennial Exchange & Free Planting Station | 1 – 3 pm
Near the flagpoles on Centre St.
Whether you are a seasoned gardener or just greening your thumbs, the exchange and planting station has something for you and kids too!
Perennial Exchange | Is it time to split those late blooming perennials? Bring a portion of your perennials and see what others have brought to exchange. Strike up a conversation with a fellow neighbourhood gardener and see what you might learn! Enter our draw to win a $50 Plantation Garden Centre gift certificate too!

Planting Station | Join a volunteer at the free planting station. Choose what seed you’d like to plant, plant it in the plantable planter pot (can be put directly into the garden) and then take it home to watch it grow this summer! This is a great activity for kids and adults alike.
Participants may want to bring a bag to carry their plants home in.
Kids’ Activities | noon – 2 pm
We’ll have some equipment and activities setup for the kids by the inclusive playground, and The Fun Kids Club will have a bouncy castle and kids activities by the flagpoles too.
If you have any questions, send an email to Vanessa, v.gillard@tgcacalgary.com or call the TGCA office, 403-274-6840.
Thanks so much to our Neighbour Day sponsors and participating business members
