The TGCA is pleased to share that we have partnered with North Haven Community Association and the University of Calgary’s School of Architecture Planning and Landscape on an urban design study.
We kicked off this four-month project with a 5 kilometre walk through Thorncliffe-Greenview and North Haven with U of C students and representatives from each community association.
This is a unique opportunity to identify planning challenges in our community, such as: density—how many buildings are in a particular area; physical planning—deciding where things should go in a community, like roads, parks, shops, etc.; urban design—how a place looks and feels at the street level, including how buildings, sidewalks, and neighbourhoods are shaped so they’re attractive, safe, and pleasant to be in; and land use—what different pieces of land are allowed to be used for. The students will work with us in creating a visioning document for future use that could potentially inform the TGCA’s dialogue with the City and developers.
A critical part of this project is the opportunity to engage directly with community members including an upcoming workshop on March 7. Please find that event information in the ad on this page.
At the end of the project in April, we will receive a final report from the students which will also be shared with community members at an open house. The report includes documentation of the community’s history from its very beginnings and how its past influenced its current form, and a thorough site analysis of its physical form as well as its sociodemographic profile.
More information on the process of the study can be found at this link including previous projects that have been completed. https://sapl.ucalgary.ca/professionalplanningstudio/process
We are excited about this partnership and will provide updates as the project progresses.
